Mt. Kumgang is the
stage for national reconciliation and peace
With the maiden voyage of the Kumgang Cruise ship
into the North's sea on November 18, 1998, the
commencement of the Mt. Kumgang Tour marked
a historical union after a half a century of
separation, and opened a sluice gate of large scale
inter-Korean exchange of people and materials.

separated families, inter-Korean women's conferences, international motor cycle
competitions, the 8/15 Commemorative Mt. Kumgang Student Peace Celebration, and
other exchanges and meetings in the political, social, economic, cultural, sports, and
religious arenas.

Cooperation, into a World Class Tourism Site
The Gosung Port area (including the Samilpo/Heageumgang area, Onjungri, Sungbookri,
part of Gosungeup, and part of Tongchun) will be developed first, followed by the golf
course, skiing slope, and hotel. All will be constructed in the 109 km wide area stretching
from the south of Heageumgang to Wonsan, creating a world class tourism site.
Further development plasn have been formulated to develop various tourism courses in
Naegeumgang, Chongsukjung, and Myungsasipri. Also, the Mt. Baekdoo tour will be
expanded to include the course through Wonsan to Mt. Seolak
- Mt. Kungang - Pyungyang - Mt. Myohyang - Mt. Chilbo.
- The area will be developed as an ecological tourism site through cooperation with
domestic and international environmental organizations implementing advanced
technology.

Investment Environment |

- A total of 149 million dollars will be invested in the Mt. Kungang area for the construction
of much needed infrastructure. This includes the Gosung Port Peer, a hotel on the sea,
the Onjunggak resting area, a cultural center, Hot Spring spas, various public
accommodations and roads connecting tourism sites.
- The area has been designated as a "Special Area for Mt. Kumgang Tourism" and free
entrepreneurial activities are guaranteed. In September 2003, the land tour of the
North commence,d opening up the land of North Korea after a half century of separation.
Various tour packages ranging from single day trips to long-term staying are offered to
help revamp Mt. Kumgang tourism.
