Hyundai Elevator and LG Electronics Sign MOU for Robotic Synchronization and Smart Building Solution Supply

- Elevator open API and contactless technology to be converged with automatic driving and signage technology
- A “vertical e-mobility” market to open for diverse spatial representation and digital experiences

Hyundai Elevator has been rapidly expanding its elevator market through home networks applied with IoT, AI, and contactless technologies as well as connections with automatic driving robots.
Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) and LG Electronics (CEO Kwon Sun-hwang) signed the “MOU for Robotic Synchronization and Smart Building Solutions” on August 20th at LG Science Park in Gangseo-gu, Seoul. The two companies announced that they are planning to share and exchange technologies for businesses that connect elevators with automatically driving robots, a smart building solution that connects with a home network system, and a technological collaboration with LG Electronics’ preceding signage technologies. Hyundai Elevator’s CEO Seong Seung-bong and LG Electronics’ BS Division CEO Kwon Sun-hwang, as well as select officials from both companies, will attend the signing event.
The elevator industry used to measure technological advancement by speed. However, it is now evolving into e-mobility through the improvement of AI and additional fourth Industrial Revolution technology, which allows for new business opportunities. Incoming individuals can be automatically identified and call an elevator, check parking locations, and open doors, based on their information. Furthermore, elevators are quickly expanding to home automation and delivery and concierge services synchronized with service robots.
According to CEO Song Seung-bong of Hyundai Elevator, “Connecting the Open Application Programing Interface (API) we are developing with contactless technology, in collaboration with LG Electronics’ automatic driving robots and signage technologies for smart building solutions, will have positive synergy with apartments, hotels, buildings, and other various areas. The two companies will open a new market in vertical e-mobility.”
CEO Kwon Sun-hwang of LG Electronics’ BS Business Division stressed, “Collaboration in business in robotics, signage, and home and building solutions will allow us to discover valuable services in various areas and provide a differentiated experience to customers.”
Hyundai Elevator will jumpstart this MOU to develop elevator Open APIs that can connect with various application programs. The company also plans to use OLED and other preceding signage technologies to launch premium elevators that allow for diverse spatial representations and digital experiences.
