Hyundai Elevator Completes Smart Campus in Shanghai, China

2021-04-08
- Gaining a foothold for the global campaign with facilities such as smart factory with annual production capacity of 25,000 units, testing towers ready to go.
- Real-time management of raw material through big data and IoT from warehousing to shipping of finished products

Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) announced the completion of a smart campus (land area 105,517㎡). The campus is comprised of various facilities, including a smart factory capable of producing 25,000 units annually (23,500 elevators, 1,500 escalators), towers dedicated to testing ultra high-speed and observation elevators among many others (175 meters aboveground, 11 meters belowground), an R&D center, a customer care center for real-time monitoring and maintenance of the elevators, an office building, a welfare building, etc. in Jinshan Industrial Park in Shanghai, China.

Hyundai Elevator’s Shanghai Subsidiary began construction after receiving approval for the construction of production lines for facilities such as smart factories last November. The smart factory, put together with elevator and escalator production lines and a distribution center, has been implemented with equipment for automated production and distribution, as well as industrial IoT and AI technologies. “An integrated production management system has been put in place to manage everything from customer order placement to real-time shipping of finished products, maximizing production efficiency and optimizing the system for flexible analysis,” said a Hyundai Elevator representative. In particular, customer visibility has been greatly improved, with project progress checking possible in real time, thanks to the collection and analysis of various data, including order data and customized information, and the analysis results reflected in the production line.

Hyundai Elevator plans to become a top-tier brand in China, the world’s biggest elevator, and grow Shanghai Smart Campus into a global market hub by integrating state-of-the-art technologies such as IT fusion technology to match fast-changing customer trends, enhancing their products and smart factory, and optimizing logistics.

With the completion of the smart campus, the production capacity of Shanghai Subsidiary has increased by 350% from the previous capacity (about 7,000 units). “By bringing together optimized production lines, enhanced design, and capacity in contactless technology, we will make sure to expand our influence on China’s national construction projects for new cities as well as on global landmark markets,” said CEO Song Seung-bong.
