Hyundai Elevator Hosts the “Global CoP Knowledge Conference” in Metaverse

2022-03-17
Sharing of annual CoP activities in major countries among domestic and foreign employees in the virtual space “gather.town”
Improvement of cross-cultural understanding of elevator and construction markets, real estate, and local consumer trends, etc.

Hyundai Elevator (Seung-Bong Song, CEO) held a knowledge conference on the 17th to share research activities of Global Community of Practice (CoP), an in-house self-learning organization, with domestic and foreign employees on the metaverse platform “gather.town”.

Metaverse is a compound word of “meta” meaning virtual and “universe” meaning real world. It is a virtual space for avatars to engage in various social and cultural activities online. The online space “gather.town”, where Hyundai Elevator created an environment for knowledge conference, is a platform that links the metaverse and video conference. Expatriates and local employees of overseas subsidiaries could participate without space restrictions to directly introduce their local culture, communicate with the headquarters in real-time, and share various information.

Hyundai Elevator introduced the Global CoP Knowledge Conference in 2018 to strengthen the capabilities of its employees in globalization. Since then, it has promoted the improvement of cross-cultural understanding of employees by sharing the research results of the participants on the elevator and construction markets, real estate policies, and consumer trends in major countries in which they operate, such as China, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Last year, amid the continued COVID-19 crisis, the conference was live-streamed through a video conference solution.

In the meantime, Hyundai Elevator, which built a smart factory in Geumsan Industrial District in Shanghai, China, in the first half of 2021, finished moving its headquarters to a smart campus built in Chungju in February. Hyundai Elevator is now taking a huge leap in enhancing its competitiveness through digital innovation by applying the 4th industrial revolution technologies such as IoT, big data, and AI. / FIN
