Wins the Main Prize at the Red Dot Design Award

2021-10-20
- A new concept interpreting elevators as a “seamless space” through light and shadow
- Won all three major design competitions in the world including Red Dot, IDEA, and iF Design Awards

Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-Bong) announced on October 20th that the company won the main prize in the public space category at the German Red Dot Design Award for its new elevator concept, “The EL Emotion”, which interpreted elevators as a “seamless space” by using light and shadow. With this award, Hyundai Elevator became the winner of all three major design competitions in the world, after winning the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) in the United States in 2018 and the iF Design Award in Germany in 2017.

“The EL Emotion”, submitted through industry-academy cooperation with Hongik University’s International Design School for Advanced Studies (IDAS), is an elevator design that embodies floor buttons, information display, and interior lighting through active beam projections, with the motif of natural lighting. With the concept of seamless communication with customers, “The EL Emotion” not only recognizes the height or characteristics of the passenger to move the location of the buttons but also adjusts the interior lighting in various ways to suit the situation.

An official at Hyundai Elevator said, “Elevators are a medium that connects two different spaces and thus the importance of a service design based on user experience is increasingly emphasized,” and added, “In line with the company’s product philosophy that pursues Vertical e-Mobility, we will continue to communicate with our customers through user-centric, seamless designs”.
