Hyundai Elevator Holds a Webinar “Global CoP Knowledge Conference”

2021-03-09
- To share annual CoP activities of major countries including China and Turkey where the Company is operating its subsidiaries through Zoom on the 4th
- To communicate with executives and employees about real estate policy and prospect, housing culture, etc. of each country

On the 4th, Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seung-bong) held the “Global CoP Knowledge Conference” to share the research activities of Global Community of Practice (CoP), an in-house self-learning organization, with all executives and employees via a webinar (online seminar). The event began in 2018 for the reinforcement of the employees’ global mindset and was live-streamed through Zoom, a video conference solution, amid the continued COVID-19 situation.

With the highest market share in Korea, Hyundai Elevator is accelerating its expansion to the global market, centering on its overseas subsidiaries operating in China, Turkey, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. Following the turnaround of the Chinese subsidiary amid the COVID-19 crisis last year, it plans to complete the construction of a smart factory with an annual output of 25,000 units by the first half of this year in Shanghai’s Jinshan Industry Zone.

Through the voluntary participation of employees, the Global CoP conducts researches on various topics, from real estate policies and prospects to industry trends and housing cultures of the six major countries every year. It further shares the accomplishments of the year with its employees through a knowledge conference. In particular, the communication was reinforced in the conference this year, held in the form of an interactive webinar broadcasted between domestic and overseas employees.

“We experienced difficulties in communication while managing overseas subsidiaries due to differences in cultural backgrounds. We were able to search data and conduct interviews, which allowed us to understand our differences and strengthen the relationship between the headquarters and its overseas subsidiaries,” said Lee Won-kyoung, a member of the Overseas Management Team who participated in the Indonesian CoP.

With six subsidiaries and 46 networks in operation worldwide, Hyundai Elevator plans to go further to double its overseas sales by 2026. The company plans to achieve this goal by introducing innovative digital technology such as artificial intelligence (AI) in its smart factories in Chungju, Chungbuk to be completed in 2022 and the Shanghai production base, and by securing “Before Service” that enables predictive and trouble diagnosis analysis as well as global talents.

“The utmost priority in achieving this year’s primary goal of expanding our global business is having ample understanding of overseas markets and cultures around them. While COVID-19 has placed upon us many challenges, it has also given us the opportunity to hold this year’s conference virtually, allowing the employees from the headquarters, branches, and offshore operations to more freely and frequently interact with one another. This will contribute much to enhancing our competency in the global market,” said the company’s CEO Song Seung-bong.
