Hyundai Elevator - KT Begins Development of AI Elevator

Hyundai Elevator (CEO Song Seong-bong) and KT (President Hwang Chang-gyu) announced on the 27th that they signed an ‘MOU for the Connected Elevator Business’ in the Hyundai Group Building (Jongno-gu, Seoul) and will start developing next-generation elevators that integrate ICT (Information & Communication Technology). The ceremony was attended by key representatives from both companies, including Cho Jae-cheon, the acting head of the Elevator Business Division at Hyundai Elevator and Lee Hyun-seok, the head of the Device Business Division at KT.

Connected Elevator is a next-generation elevator that enhances customer convenience by using ICT technology such as Connectivity with smart devices and service robots, security and safety, artificial intelligent call and voice command systems. In addition, the two companies plan to create a synergy in the advertisement business through joint development of elevators with built-in monitors.

Cho Jae-cheon, the acting head of the Elevator Business Division at Hyundai Elevator said that he was “pleased to establish a foundation for the development of next-generation elevators based on the high ICT capabilities of KT, a representative telecommunications company in Korea, and the R&D and maintenance technology of Hyundai Elevators.” He further mentioned that Hyundai Elevators will “strive to produce new, convenient, and safe elevators with domestic researchers and technical staff members.”

Lee Hyun-seok, the head of the Device Business Division at KT said that he expects “the integration of Hyundai Elevator’s industry-leading manufacturing and maintenance technology with the ICT technology of KT to shape a competitive edge in the new field of the Connected Elevator,” and that KT plans to “strengthen cooperation with various industries through ICT technologies such as AI, 5G, and IoT.”
