Hyundai Elevator develops augmented reality (AR) design selection system

2019-03-18
- Select the door, button, or interior material to experience a complete elevator through AR and VR

- Over 1,000 possible combinations ... Helps decision-making through management of customer counseling history

On the 19th, Hyundai Elevator (CEO Bob Jang) announced its development of an AR?VR design selection system that enables customers to select and check elevator designs in real time by applying augmented reality technology. It will be applied to the partial replacement market first, then expanded later to newly installed products in the future.

The AR?VR design selection system developed by Hyundai Elevator shows a complete image in 3D when a customer selects specifications such as traction machine, door, button, and interior materials using a tablet PC application. When the tablet camera faces the actual location of the elevator, the elevator with the selected combination is projected on the actual elevator.

In addition, the Gyro Sensor allows customers to open the landing door as if they are actually boarding and walk inside to view the design within the elevator. Over 1,000 combinations are possible, and the combinations selected by the customers are stored in the history management function to help decision-making in future counseling.

The market reaction to this new technology differentiated from competitors is encouraging. Customer interest and satisfaction increases as customers may have their choices reflected immediately and because they are capable of checking the results. Hyundai Elevator, after recently completing its system distribution to nation-wide branches, plans to utilize this system for future individual-customer counseling as well as briefing sessions for public housing residents.

An official of Hyundai Elevator expressed that “as markets related to the replacement of old elevators is expanding rapidly, customer interest is also increasing. However, there have been difficulties while explaining the technical aspects using existing methods.” The official also explained that “with this new technology, it is possible to check the complete elevator in an environment most similar to reality, not only aiding the customers’ understanding but also expanding their options.”
